TAGS
Tags are used to filter list views according to whatever categories you create. This is to:
make sites easier to find in the site selector
make complex selections for destination sites when making copies
simplify Display playlists - tagging a display asset will cause it to display only on sites with a matching tag, meaning you don't have to maintain separate playlists for different site types
The larger your number of sites, the more useful tags become. Particularly in organizations where you have deviations from one location to the next in regards to things like pricing, availability, dates, etc. you'll find that tags become indispensable for keeping track of distinctions between locations.
Manage Tags
The Manage page allows you to create, delete, and edit tags. These are global settings for entire account.
Add a new tag
At the top of the page you can add a tag by typing into the box and clicking "Add Tag." The new tag will appear in the list of "Your Tags." There are no restrictions on the number of tags or what you type here.
Editing your tags
In the section for Your Tags you can click the pencil icon to edit a tag, then:
Delete the tag (bin icon)
Edit the text of the tag
Change the color - click on the color box and use the picker
Save the changes (green checkmark icon)
Assign Tags
Here you control what tags apply to what sites. There is no limit on the number of tags you can apply to a site.
The search filter at the top of the page is used to refine the list of sites below. You can type site names, JUKE numbers (Startle's internal site ID number), or tag names into the search field to refine the list.
With filtering in place, you can now select individual rows' checkboxes or use "Select visible" to select all the sites shown.
Once rows are selected you can add or remove tags on these sites with the red "Remove Tags" button and the black "Add Tags" button. Select the tags to add or remove. If the tag already exists on that site it's ok, this will not result in duplicates.
Your tags will now appear in the site selector dropdown if you enable "Show tags"
USER MANAGEMENT
User management allows creation of new user accounts as well as changes to existing accounts. User accounts with access to this menu can only create and edit permissions equal to or below their own access levels.
Create a new user account
Press the black "+ Create User" button at top right.
Fill out user information. First name, last name, and email are required.
Now choose the sites (devices) the user will have access to. Selecting the green "All sites" option will grant access to all existing sites as well as any new sites that appear within the account in the future.
Once any site is selected, the "Permissions" field will appear in the section below. Available permissions can change depending on the site selection. For example, if a selected single site has only the Display product configured then only Display permissions will appear for selection.
Access shortcuts
Access shortcuts are templates that assign groups of permissions based on typical access levels. The options vary depending on the product, listed with minimal access levels at the top and maximum access toward the bottom.
Select a shortcut, or choose Custom to configure each permission individually.
Click the save button to finish creating the user account. No one-time password is required for the new user to access the account. Simply navigate to https://startle.studio and enter the new email address. A verification email will be sent with a one-time login code.
Edit an existing user
You can search names, emails, or sites (devices) in the search field. A site name/jukeID will return all users associated with that site.
Adjust details and permissions as shown above in the user creation guide.
Delete a user
Click the red Delete button and confirm.
PLAYER SETTINGS
The Player Settings page displays technical information about the site's hardware player. Some useful information here are the mac addresses, for example. The serial number on the bottom of the player is also its ethernet mac address. But if the sticker is faded or lost it can be helpful to find its number here.
Of note, some players will have an alternate mac address for WiFi use. If that's the case you can find this here, along with its last known IP address.
Temperature readings are also worth nothing. Anything above 60 Celsius is considered problematic. Extremely high temperatures will eventually degrade the hardware, especially the memory card which can fail under prolonged heat exposure. Consider moving the player away from other heat sources if you consistently see temps above 60.
WIFI SETTINGS
It is generally better to use a wired ethernet connection to your network if at all possible. Using WiFi introduces considerably more instability. If passwords and other details for the network change, the player will lose its connection and require a fresh setup with a wired connection.
To connect your player to WiFi you must
Have an active network connection
Be within range of the signal for the WiFi network you want to connect to
Step 1: To begin, press the black "Scan for networks" button and the player will register all the WiFi networks in range
Step 2: Pick the desired network from the list and press the "Connect" button
Step 3: Enter the password
Step 4: Wait for the connection. The prompt will caution you that the process will take some time and you should not leave the page until complete. The server is now sending the credentials to player, waiting for the player to set up its configuration. Finally it will reboot the player and attempt to connect to this WiFi.
Step 5: Once the player has connected the page will refresh and you'll see indications for a successful connection or not. If successful you'll be informed it's now safe to unplug the ethernet and move the player to its destination away from the wired connection. If you decide to use the wired connection again later you can simply reconnect ethernet and reboot the player to move it from WiFi to wired. No settings are necessary.
