Ultimate DJ

Amplify the power of Ultimate DJ by crafting your own sets to include warm-up and cool-down stages

Written by Daniel Mylotte

Ultimate DJ (UDJ) is an add-on for the Music product that introduces a new set of playlists ("DJ mixes") anywhere you make music selections.

The Ultimate DJ app allows for the creation of custom "DJ sets" that can incorporate the warm-up and cool-down components that a real DJ would provide to perfectly time the energy levels around your peak dancefloor hours.

You can still use simple scheduling of the DJ mixes in your schedules or overrides without the need for the UDJ app or the DJ sets. The sets simply allow programming of the warmup/peak/cooldown progression.

UDJ schedules take precedence over your weekly background music schedule. Overrides still take precedence over everything. So an override will play over the DJ sets, which will play over the weekly schedule. Keep this in mind if you aren't hearing what you expect.

DJ SETS

DJ Sets need to be constructed before you can use them. On the "DJ sets" page click the pink "Create custom set" button at the top right of the page.

Set details

Give your set a name such as "Friday night" or "Student night" and then click the "Next" button to go to step 2.

Warm-up

Now you can add multiple genres of warm-up sets for the opening portion of the set. Click one of the genres and use the slider to choose 30, 45, or 60 minutes for that specific genre. Then click the "+Add Mix" button to include this in the warm-up.

Not every mix genre has a warm-up available.

Click an additional genre and duration to add another genre to the set.

The durations of the selected mixes can still be adjusted at this point. When finished, click the "Next" button at bottom right to proceed.

Peak Time Mixes

Now add peak mixes the same way. The available durations for peak mixes are 30 mins, 2hours 15mins, or 4 hours.

When finished, click "Next" in the bottom right corner.

Cool down mixes

Complete the set by including cool down mixes (if available - availability may change from month to month). Click Next to review the selection summary and save.

When finished, click the "Create set" button at bottom right. The set will now appear on the DJ sets>Custom sets page.

SCHEDULE A SET

With a set created you can now move on to scheduling. Clicking "Schedule a set" opens a 24/7 schedule grid resembling the music app schedule.

The UDJ schedule acts like an "override." Anything in this schedule will pre-empt your background music schedule.

Add an event

Scroll and click the grid at the desired time, OR click the "+Add Event" button at the top right of the grid, OR click the "Schedule a set" menu item in the left sidebar. The "Create DJ Set Event" sidebar appears at the right of the screen.

Select the Set, Day, and Start. The end time is automatically calculated for you.

Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the sidebar to finish scheduling. The set now appears in the grid.

DJ set events will not appear in your weekly background music schedule as shown in the Music app.

Deleting Set Events

Click the event on the schedule grid. The sidebar opens. At the bottom of the sidebar click "Delete Event."
